Gym mat bed (NY, NY)Repurposed antique gym mat, riftsawn white oak, and blackened steel. END GRAIN CABINET (BROOKLYN, NY)This small wall cabinet is made from randomly sized reclaimed spruce blocks captured within a TIG welded steel grid. The dovetailed door and carcase are made from ebonized ash. HYDROPONIC KITCHEN ISLAND (BROOKLYN, NY)Walnut and stainless steel hydroponic kitchen island prototype. T5 or LED grow lights can be used in this space, energy, and water efficient device. Serves as a small kitchen garden, prep table from one side, and dining table from the other. Designed for the constraints of a small urban apartment (24 x 48 x 36 inches). Custom iterations available. DOVETAIL BENCH (BROOKLYN, NY)Dovetail shaped blackened steel legs nested into a reclaimed beam. This 16" high bench can also serve as a narrow coffee table. MORTISE DESK (BROOKLYN, NY)Reclaimed hem-fir desk with longleaf pine keys. Legs are splayed and tapered before being splined into the top piece (16 x 49 x 29 inches). RECIPROCAL END TABLE (ROCKPORT, ME)An iteration of a reciprocal frame structure, this time in furniture. This small end table features ebonized bent laminate white oak and fiddleback maple veneer. The joinery placement and layout was determined with CAD, but executed with hand tools. NESTING TEA AND DINING TABLE (BROOKLYN, NY)Nesting tea and dining tables designed/built to traditional Korean dimensions for a compact four-person dining table (800 x 800 x 305 mm, which is also well suited to a small NYC apartment). Quartersawn white oak tables feature hand-cut dovetail and stub tenon joinery, mother of pearl inlay, and hand-chamfered edge treatment deliberately left proud. MORRIS ARBORETUM TREEHOUSE (PHILADELPHIA, PA)Wheelchair accessible (American with Disabilities Act compliant) treehouse for the University of Pennsylvania's Morris Arboretum. Designed by Metcalfe Architecture & Design and built while working with Forever Young Treehouses. Scope included a giant bird's nest woven from two linear miles of cedar boughs, bent laminate oak trellis entryway, and a cherry timberframe. BOOKSHELVES FOR BOOKCOURT (BROOKLYN, NY)Designed/built a wall unit for art and architecture books for BookCourt in Cobble Hill. 120 year-old Longleaf Pine beams from a Greenpoint pencil factory were repurposed for this display. |
